"ASH-HADU AN LAA ILAHA ILLALLAH, WA ASH HADU ANNA MOHAMMADAN RASOOLULLAH". Once you have articulated this testimony, knowing its meaning, and fully confirming the belief in its two segments, you immediately become a Muslim even if this testimony was not publicly professed.
The meaning of the 1st segment: "LA-ILAHA ILLALLAH": It means the determined belief that there is no God who has the right to be worshipped except Allah because He is the creator of everything that exists. He neither begets nor is He begotten nor associated with a spouse. There is nothing that resembles Him in His names, Attributes, and Perfectness. Nothing other than Him can create nor possess the authority to provide benefit or inflict harm, or knows the unseen. Hence, supplications, prostrations and any other act of worship must not be developed except to Allah Alone.
The meaning of the 2nd segment: "MOHAMMADAN RASOOLULLAH": It means the determined belief that Mohammad, the son of Abdullah, the Quraishite Arab Messenger is sent by Allah with a book of rules and regulations for all mankind. He is the last of all the Messengers and Prophets of Allah, and it is obligatory to believe, follow and love him. Our worship will not be valid unless it is offered in the manner preached by this Messenger.
